On Location...from the Dance Floor!

I have been taking Salsa lessons for the past 4 weeks! It has been a blast! My last class of the month was last week and our teacher reminded us that we have learned 8 steps! Whoa! That’s a lot! Well, a lot for me anyway…I started out with nada! I’m looking forward to taking more lessons in the following months! I’m going to be a pro in no time! Ok, maybe not, but I am having a really fun time in the process!!!

Also, I went to 2 swing lessons this month. The first one was intense! I had no clue what was going on for about ¾ of the time! When I finally kinda semi caught on, the lesson was over and then the dance floor opened up…yikes! I was asked to dance several times, which was fun…but I did have some unfortunate encounters…

1. Dip Boy – So…when this guy asked me to dance I said “Sure, but I’m a beginner and I don’t know what I’m doing.” A very honest comment to make! He was like “no problem, as long as you’re willing to learn”. How great right? Ummm…not so much! It started out just fine, pretty basic and simple…then out of nowhere he pulls out all these crazy turns…I totally stepped on his feet a few times...hahaha. Then, the song comes to an end and he proceeds to dip me…are you serious?!?... I had no idea what was going on so I was reluctant to dip and he just kept trying…it was a very unfortunate experience!!!

2. Rico Suave – Ok, this guy…again, I told him I’m a beginner so none of this fancy stuff. Too bad he didn’t listen. All of a sudden he starts doing all kinds of “moves”…there was this one where his back was facing me and he was going all out and I was like uhhh…uhhh…I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing at this point in my life. Oh yea, and the whole time he didn’t even look at me…he was looking at himself dancing in the mirror! Seriously?!?

3. Grape Boy – This guy was wearing a shirt with grapes on it. He as a really nice guy, but he did not know how to dance…I couldn’t even do the basic steps that I had learned. I didn’t know what he was doing the whole time! Ok, fine, I don’t know how to dance either, but I have learned that if the girl has a good lead he can make her look fabulous regardless…just saying.

Despite all of the above...I am really enjoying dancing...and life right now!!!
Praise the LORD!

It’s JULY?!?!?! Yowza!!!

May Update

-I finished my first semester as a full-time grad student! Whoa! Praise the Lord that he helped me through all of that! I’m going full-time in the fall as well…eeks!

-Had an amazing birthday week!
Tuesday May 19^th : My co-workers and I went out to lunch to celebrate. Came back to work and had ice cream cake!!! My fav!
Wednesday May 20^th : Had ice cream cake again!
Thursday May 21^st : One of my co-workers took me out to lunch to celebrate!
Friday May 22^nd : Went Salsa dancing and had a great time!
Saturday May 23^rd : “Lions, Tigers and Ice Cream…Oh My!” Got together with some amazing friends and went to the Zoo, Freebird’s for dinner and Amy’s Ice Cream for some cold sweet goodness!
Sunday May 24^th : Had people over at the house after church for ice cream cake…Nelly made me not one but two ice cream cakes! They were delicious…brownie, peanut butter icing, recee’s pieces, and ice cream all coexisting in one cake!!! I ended up eating ice cream cake everyday for a week!
Monday May 25^th (my actual birthday): Spent time with my family! We went out to lunch and then out to a Mexican ice cream shop…does anyone know what the flavor “chongos” taste like? I didn’t until that day, it’s great! I also went to the movies with my sis, Night at the Museum!
Tuesday May 26^th: Yea, I thought my birthday was over…but it wasn’t! I got my first delivery at work ever!!! A few of my friends got together and got me an Edible Arrangement! It was the best fruit ever!!! Also, another one of my co-workers made me the most delicious chocolate coconut cake cookies! That was the best day at work I’ve ever had!!!

Yes…a whole week of celebration! Now that’s how it’s done!

-Sunday May 31^st : Fiddler on the Roof!!!!!!! It was like a dream…except it was for real!

June Update

-Took a summer class…that was intense, but I got though it! It was a great class, the last day most of us went out for dinner with our professor! I really like this whole grad school business…well at least that’s the feeling for now.

-I went to the Dynamo vs Chivas USA game and discovered that my cousin plays for the Chivas USA. His name is Gerson Mayen…ok…ok…fine…he’s not really my cousin, but I think it’s pretty cool that we have the same last name!

- Watched the US vs Egypt game! US won…bummer…hehehe. It made me miss all my wonderful Masry friends!

-Went to see/hear the Houston Symphony for the very first time…it was beautiful!

July Update (all 6.5 days of it…well I guess I can write about what I’m looking forward to in July as well)

-I just got a postcard from FRANCE today from one of my co-workers!!! C’est fantastique! Je l’amie beaucoup! J’aime la France, je veux y aller un jour…peut etre l’annee prochaine? Je ne sais pas, mais je veux y aller !

-Went to Wimberley, TX with my lifegroup from church for the 4^th of July weekend. I had a great time there, Nelly and I got up super early on Saturday and went up the prayer mountain. It was beautiful! I love being high above everything else going on and just getting away. I also had a great time spending time with friends and getting to know them better.

Break: While I was there some people decided it would be funny to put sun block on David’s face while he was sleeping…then we woke up and they blamed it on me, which provoked him to seek revenge and pour sun block on my feet while I was sleeping! Contrary to popular belief, I am not always the one to pull the pranks…just saying.

-I started taking a Salsa Dance class on Thursdays! The first lesson was great and I can’t wait for the next one! I’m totally going to be a pro! Ok, maybe not a pro, but I will definitely get better!

-I’m going to start going to some Swing Dance lessons too! Ohhhhh…I’m excited!

-I’m going to The Phantom of the Opera later this month!!!

-I’m leaving on a jet plane…maybe not a jet plane as much as an airplane, but the fact of the matter is…is that I’m going to Japan and Korea at the end of the month! I leave July 31^st! Sayonara!!!! I can’t wait to see my friends! Watch out Yui and Hee Young!!!
